How to Make Your Domain Name SEO Friendly

SEO or search engine optimizations are website elements and activities to emphasize some content of the site. This important content are keywords that you are trying to rank for. The first step of SEO is selecting keywords or search phrases that have low competition and high search volume. The next step is modifying web pages to contain relevant keywords in elements like page title, meta description, url, header tags and other important places. The final SEO action is promotion of the website. This is done mainly through various link building strategies. Every backlink to your website contributes to its popularity and authority. But the most important on-page SEO element is the domain.

Domain is the name of the website as it is seen on the internet. Therefore, it should be either short easy to remember word or keyword related to the content of the web pages. If your website is build around one keyword or search phrase, the best approach is to use this keyword also for the domain. This means trying to register MyKeyword.com on the first place and if this name is already registered to try alternative names. Having the main keyword in the domain name has two benefits. Such domains clearly describe your website without visiting it and consequently the domain is SEO friendly meaning that it explains the content of the site also to search engines.

If the target keyword is not available for the com top level domain you can try with org, net or info domains. There is no significant difference among them–they are all general purpose domains with no specific geographic target area. If you can still not find a free name you need to slightly modify your keyword by adding a word that makes sense in the context of the site. For example MyKeywordReviews.com, MyKeywordInfo.com or MyKeywordShop.com are typical solutions where the main word is already registered. Such variations have still your main keyword in the domain and are still considered SEO friendly.

With proper additional word it is almost always possible to find a free domain name. But in some cases it is also possible to use only the keyword as domain name and selecting one of the country top level domains. If you are targeting only one country or only one geographic area then this approach is equally effective as using general top level domains.

In every case you should choose domain that is somehow related to the website. If it contains the main keyword it will be easily remembered and SEO friendly.

One example of SEO friendly domain name is the http://restaurantpizzaovens.org/ website. It contains the main keyword restaurant pizza ovens which clearly describes what the page is about. Since the com domain was already taken the next alternative with org was used.

Remember, domain name is very important part of internet marketing. Domain registration is the next step after deciding the name and purpose of the website.

How to Make Money Parking Domains

You can make money out of expired or abandoned domains in many different ways. This is especially true with domains which were already attracting a sizable daily volume of visits before the owner decided to stop maintaining them. One easy way to make money is to purchase one such domain and to park it. In other words, after purchasing the domain, you simply put up a single page on it announcing that the site is being developed. However, the catch is that you will fill that page with affiliate advertisements and Google AdSense banners.

But first, how exactly do you get a listing of expired domains to make money from? By searching on the Internet, of course! However, not all outfits that provide listings will also display the statistics of the domains listed. Sometimes no information will be made available as to the links to that domain and its ranking with search engines. With persistence, you may eventually find a website which does.

But before you shop around for expired domains, you should know what subject you are devoting to in your website. Naturally your website has to be about a popular topic for it to make money for you. If you visit article submission sites, you can click through their article categories and open one or two articles in one category. The number of people who have read that article represents the popularity of the subject matter. Naturally you will want to make money from the most read articles.

When you do visit sites that list expired domains and their details, try to get a domain name that says something about the subject that you have chosen. Many domains with very suggestive and attractive names expire every day. If you don’t find any name you like on your first visit, try again after 12 hours. Keep trying until you do find the domain name that fits your subject matter. Buy it and put up one page on it.

To make money you should make that page look important so that people will be eager to click on the links they find on it. Of course, you need to announce unobtrusively that the page is under construction. Under that modest announcement, you need to fill that one page with your affiliate links. These are simply links that contain an id number referring to your affiliate account with a mother company. When a visitor clicks one such link, he is immediately whisked to the appropriate product page on the website of the outfit to which you are affiliated. Because of your id number in that link, the head company will know to give you a commission should they make money on that visitor.

The nice thing about parking domains is that you make money without a full-blown website. You will not need to buy software to create the website yourself or have it done by a professional for an even bigger fee. A few lines of HTML will suffice for you to make money on your parked domain.

Of course, you should have studied the right keywords to put on that single page in order that it should float up in searches. For this purpose you can avail of keyword search tools from Google itself.

How to Choose a Good Domain Name

Being a “newbie” in almost anything can often lead to costly mistakes in our lives. Besides money, we may work day and night for weeks, months or even years on a project that eventually doesn’t amount to anything at all. Sure, maybe we just misread the size of the market for our chocolate-covered slippers, but more often it is because of the business decisions we made along the path. Admit it, sometimes we just make our “best guess” and “hope” it works out. And then we are faced with another “best guess” and before long, you may have a dozen or more “best guesses” as a foundation for you business. And that is all because we just didn’t know how to make the right decisions at the right time. Personally, I refuse to admit how many times I’ve been through that process because it is embarrassing, but let’s just say it has been enough times to “finally” learn stop making the same mistakes. The good thing is, we can learn from our own mistakes and along the way, we can try to help others who may still be in that “lost and confused” state… you know, not knowing enough to be able to ask the right questions about what you don’t know! Well, I made many of mine of a period of several years as I was just getting to know this mysterious and magic world wide web of ours. And now, what I’ve learned, I can pass along.

The overall success of a website depends on a complex variety of elements including the message you are trying to convey, the look of and feel of the site, and, of course, the content. But a primary element that many people just “grab” and then move on is one that will have a huge impact, either positive or negative. And that is the domain name you choose. Without a correctly-chosen domain name to represent you or your business, it may not matter how much money you invest or how good your products are, nobody will know if they don’t know your website exists. That means no traffic, and no traffic means no ability to sell anything, even if it is just you ideas. That’s why someone who wants to get noticed on the web, or perhaps even start a business – the right way – should read this article.

First you need to buy a domain. When I say “buy” a domain name, I’m actually meaning temporary ownership, or more precisely, leasing it, because once you stop paying the annual fee, you’ll lose ownership of that name. So, when buying a domain, the first thing you need to ask yourself is what you will be doing with the domain, or your “web site.” Will it be just to share your personal information and photos with family and friends? It can be, and that was my original intent when I purchased my personal website’s domain name. I bought it because I was thinking it would be the easiest way to share pictures of me, my family and my pets instead of making email attachments and then sending the email to everyone I wanted to see those pictures. What a hassle! So, if that is the main reason for you to have a website, then it really doesn’t make any difference if the domain name consists of only your own name or any other combination of letters that is personal to you, since you will not be depending on search engines to be found, but only on your own efforts to get your domain name out to those who you want to visit your domain. You can easily do this by inserting your web site’s “link” (another way to say “domain name”) into your emails and them email that to whomever you want to visit your web site.

But, if your plan is to reach a much larger population than just your friends, you need to be more thoughtful on what that domain name should be. The name you choose needs to be something that will make sense to people who have never heard of you, from one end of the world to the other. For instance, if you are trying to promote your business online, potential customers are most likely going to find you by using search engines (like Google) and ask for what they are looking for. Search engines don’t do well in finding services with only people’s names in them. One option is to buy a domain name that consists on the name of your business, like smithservicesinc.com, rodriguezassociates.org, etc. However, your business name by itself is really not a very good idea if that name doesn’t truly describe what your business does, like the previous examples did not. That may work if your business name was as popular as Amazon.com, eBay or Yahoo, but if that were the case, you probably wouldn’t be reading this article. Those businesses don’t need much help from search engines, but the likelihood is that your business will need help. So, if you want your website to have a good chance of being found by many people so you can generate lots of sales, a good start would be buying the right domain name.

Since the soul of an online business is traffic, and by traffic I mean lots of hits or views, you should buy a domain name that will let search engines know what your business is all about. It would be good to mention the products or services you are offering so when someone does a search using certain “keywords” that are related to your business, there is a good chance your link will be found. The more relevant the keywords you use are to the search, the higher your link will be displayed on the results page. However, don’t make a classic mistake of buying a domain name that sounds similar to another word or phrase, but with slightly different spelling. For instance, replacing syllables with numbers is usually not a good idea, as in these examples: happy2gether (meaning happytogether), earna4tune (meaning earnafortune), ezlearning (meaning easylearning), etc. The reality is, how likely would it be that people will type numbers in instead of syllables on a search just because they sound similar? Probably not very much. The above examples will more likely drive people to the site (probably a competitor) that doesn’t have to use numbers.

Another thing to try to do is to keep your domain names short. One-word domain names are very valuable but almost impossible to find nowadays. I am fairly certain that it would be difficult to find any word in the dictionary that is not already owned by someone, somewhere in the world. And if that particular name was in any way related to the financial industry, you would probably have to pay millions of dollars to buy the name from the person or company that already owned it. Two-words domain names are not easy to find either, unless they are a combination of words that don’t mean much or do not contain popular keywords. Let’s take the domain name youyellow.com. It’s a combination of the words you and yellow. What can I obtain with that? To me, not much. Maybe someone looking for yellow people or scared people, but I can’t think of much else. But a domain name that contains a combination of two keywords like “mortgage” + “rates”, or “airline” + “tickets”, or “affordable” + “dentures”, well, that’s something altogether different. If a good combination of two keywords that relate to your business is still available, go ahead and buy it before it’s too late! If you have tried all possible two-keyword combinations that you need in your domain name and they have all been taken, then try adding a third keyword, and so on. The ideal domain name should be short, easy to remember, have no misspellings and contain keywords that will describe the content of the website. Oh yes, please, stay away from hyphenated domain names. The domain name buyforless.com is much better than buy-for-less.com. Try typing both names yourself into Google and see what comes up. Plus, isn’t typing a hyphenated domain name much more difficult than one without hyphens? Names that are harder to type will reduce the potential for favorable results and a profitable business online.

After the value of the name itself, what comes AFTER the period is also important. Dot “com” extensions are more popular than all the dot nets, dot orgs, dot infos and dot “anything else” combined! First of all, when someone who doesn’t know much about the world wide web says “Go to the website financialservices,” but doesn’t specify what extension he’s talking about, the first thing that comes to everyone’s mind is likely to be “dot com.” Isn’t that what you would think? Actually, that IS what everyone thinks, even with all the publicity about other extensions. Dot com is still the most important and dominant name extension out there, and you should try to go with the flow rather than find a name that is easy to get with dot biz or dot us or some other extension. It’s just the way our human minds work, we have all been indoctrinated to think of dot come first. Just like for humans, a name can be something that makes other people smirk (i.e. A boy named Sue) or it can be the key to popularity and success. The difference is, for humans, a name has to be pleasant to our ears and have a good meaning or reputation. For an online business, the name has to be “pleasant” and have a good reputation with search engine robots, which are looking for relevance, no matter if the domain name itself doesn’t necessarily sound unattractive to us. Of course, the best of all worlds is to come up with a name that does both.

When you are ready to buy a domain name, it is a good idea to do some research on keyword popularity. That means; which are the most popular searches online? To help you out, go to:

http://www.selfseo.com/keyword_suggestion_tool.php

or

https://adwords.google.com/select/KeywordToolExternal

Type in a word to see how popular it is. You don’t want to buy a domain name with a keyword that nobody cares about so make sure you come up with one that contains at least some of the popular keywords for your industry. This will increase the possibilities of your website being found during ordinary searches by ordinary people. And that is what you really want, right?

How Can You Make Money Using Expired Domains?

Expired domains are a wonderful of making direct as well as indirect revenues. Now that one line is not enough for a lay man to know how are they exactly worth it. Basically the whole idea of how to make money with domains is surely not for the newbie. This is one resource that is used by webmasters to increase their revenues. If you are not a person who doesn’t know much about domain names and search engine optimization then this idea might not be for you. Or what you can do is to research on how expired-domains work after reading how you can make money with them. This article will talk about two ways of generating income through expired; indirect make money ideas from this domains and direct make money ideas.

How to make money directly from expired domains?

Basically you would be implementing the same strategy of earning from blogs or through selling products online on this domains as well. The only difference would be that instead of a new domain name you would be opting for an expired-domain. Why? The reason is very simple! The older your website is the more chances it has to generate traffic. Also, most of the affiliate programs give deep consideration to the domain’s age. If you have a new domain then probably for the initial six months or a year you won’t be able to get the top notch affiliate marketing campaigns but with an expired domain you will. An expired domain will have an older age compared to your new domain and thus once you set it up you can easily get a lot of traffic generated. Also, the plus point is you get affiliate campaigns easily.

How to make money indirectly using expired domains?

Now imagine you have a website on which you are selling products or it’s your blog and you want more exposure for it. What do you do? You pay search engine marketers to advertise your blog and turn in more traffic. Another way of getting traffic is through expired domains. As said earlier, these domain names are old and therefore can easily attract customers with a handful of good posts. All you need to do is to simply buy an expired domain that related to your keyword and set it up. Once it is all set up the next step is to refer your main website on it. Bloggers can create short posts on expired domains saying that if you want to the read whole post you need to click on this link. The link would direct the reader to your main website. The plus point is expired domains are cheaper than new domains. All you need to do is to buy some expired domains relating to the keyword you are serving and start referring customers. This is one of the simplest ways of getting customers as well as building your main websites recognition online. The more other websites will talk about your website the more worthwhile it will become and what could be better when you are the person behind all those ‘other’ websites.

Good Domain Names Can Increase Traffic and Sales

When it comes to registering domain names and setting up a website, there are some important factors to consider before you do anything. There’s no question that the name that you choose will be vital to the traffic to your site. It may be one of the biggest tasks to complete in order to have a successful and popular business on the internet because it will be the first visual picture that potential customers retain in their minds. Brainstorming and thorough planning will go a long way in this process and should not be rushed.

First of all, you should know what the domain name is and how it works. It is the address that customers will type into the address bar to find your website and products. There are several reasons that your business will need a good name for this. A sort of credibility comes with having a URL that is specific to your product or services instead of using some random URL. Consumers tend to trust and respect a specific website name.

Before you start thinking of the domain name for your site, you should find a catchy name for your website. The name should be user-friendly and easy to remember, in order to attract the best traffic to the website. You will want your customers to be able to arrive to your site easily and without much effort. Most consumers will type an internet address into their browser in hopes of finding the product for which they are searching, so it is a good practice to include your product name into both the website and the name of your domain. It is not usually a good idea to use your own name as the domain name because it creates confusion and can be easily overlooked when searching for specific products. While John Doe dot com is not a good name for a domain, John’s Pet Supply dot com would work fine because it would be easier for the customer to remember. Another reason that the name of the owner would be an ineffective purchase is that there are less options for expansion and could hinder the growth in the future of the domain.

Brand names and specific product names for domain names would accurately direct the customer to your website more consistently. As long as the name is relevant to the website, it can be profitable. For example, if you are running a business website that sells pet products that you have named ‘discount pet products’, it wouldn’t make a lot of sense to register the domain name ‘catanddogfood’. The bottom line is getting your clients to the site and by registering a name that correlates with the product it will allow you to do so.

Once you have chosen the name of your website and have come up with the right domain names, you need to also make sure that the website is ready for visitors. You should be confident in the content of the site to attract and keep the attention of the potential customer. You can choose the best website and domain in the world, but if the content is not attractive then you may not be able to capitalize on the brand or product that you sell. Having an effective name for your domain is a sure fire way to profit on the internet, so make sure that your content is profitable, as well.

Dot Tel Domains – How to Use Them

The Dot Tel domain, which can also be written as.tel, Dottel, Dot-tel, differs from other Top Level Domains (TLDs) on the internet. This domain extension (.tel) has its own control panel which is called ‘Telhosting’. A domain is purchased just like any other domain name. They will obviously already have a username and password for their domain registrar’s web site.

When they log in they will see an option for managing their Dot Tel(s). It might be called something like ‘Domain Control Panel’. This will have the link to the Telhosting page.

Many registrars, but not all, will require a new username and password to access the owner’s Telhosting panel. If so, they will need to set a new username and password. They can then begin to manage their domain. The tasks involved in managing Dot Tels include entering contact records, information, Google Map locations, descriptive text, and the general configuration of folders and sub-domains.

Usually, all of the domains that a person owns at the same registrar will use the same Telhosting panel and username and password. In this case, the owner will need only one Telhosting username and password. An exception would include an owner paying a third party to enter data to a Dot Tel. The owner would generally not want a third party to access all domains in their account. A separate Telhosting account can be created which has a new Telhosting username and password which can be made available to the third party.

It is possible to make the Telhosting username and password the same as the web site registrar username and password at some registrars. Some registrars require that the two sets of usernames and passwords be different. The reader can check with their registrar of their web site’s policy.

There is also a feature called ‘Telfriends’. Telfriends enables the owner of a Dot Tel to make any of the contact information on their domain private. The owner signs up on the Telfriend’s web site. This requires a third set of usernames and passwords. They can then receive friending requests from end users which they can either approve or decline.

An end user of a Dot Tel web site can also sign up to Telfriend’s web site. They require an email address, a username and a password. They can then send friending requests to the owner of any Dot Tel on which they wish to see private data or ‘friend’. Once approved they can access the private information of that particular web site.

To summarize, these are the basics of Dot Tel web site management. This information should enable anyone to begin managing their own domains or friend other peoples domains.

Bill Rutherfurd is an early Dot Tel adopter. He thinks it is great at providing a cheap web presence. He values the fast access to contact data and information which is especially optimized for mobile phones. He operates a Taupo, New Zealand Directory at http://www.squidoo.com/Taupodottel. He also has a blog at http://www.dottel.blogspot.com.

Domain Expiry – Scan, Track & Notify Expiring Domains

To date, around fifty million domains are registered as dot coms. With this number in mind, the likelihood of getting an unused and available 2 letter or 3 letter domain is slim to none. Haggling over prices with domain speculators is a tedious and oftentimes futile process, and can be very expensive.

The allure of acquiring 2 and 3 letter.com and.net domains is not unfounded — these are capable of giving your website strong recall, and an overall powerful brand. Statistics say that, of the thousands of possible 2 and 3 letter combinations and sequences, virtually none are available to the web developer.

If you wish to acquire a great domain comprised of two or three letters, you will have to contend with swarms of speculators who will give you a hard time if you want to register one.

To give your website a name with two or three characters, you can use a domain expiry tracker and domain name scanner. These tools will inform you when a high-demand domain name is available, so you can act fast and register it for your website. The scanner will identify all the possible two to three letter and number combinations, and highlight the ones that are available. If the one you want is not available, the domain expiry tracker script can help by giving domain expire notification. Many businesses can benefit from using domain scanning or domain tracking scripts for themselves or their clients, helping to land that much-desired name soon as soon as possible.

A domain scanner or domain expiry tracker script can also aid the speculator who owns a number of domains, especially if one has purchased various names from different providers or needs to automatically renew registration. If you’re in the business of buying popular domain names for resale, domain scanner and expiry tracker scripts can be a big help. These applications can even analyze where domains are hosted, and registration information.

Domain scanners and domain expiry tracker scripts are invaluable tools for any online business. Considering that almost all short names possible are already taken, these scripts can give you an edge in taking that two or three letter domain for yourself, without all the hard work. These tools will help you significantly improve your chance of getting that domain name, and give you the potential to create a powerful online brand and presence.

Demographically Targeted Domains – This Works

Demographically targeted domain names serve a number of purposes. Here’s a list of reason you should be using these types of domains:

* Laser like SEO benefits for the client
* Relevant search results for the consumer. Google love this.
* No shortage of names available.
* No worries of “lengthy domains” or obscure domains
* Instant recognizable to searchers
* It speaks to exactly what they are searching for at the moment of the search.

So what does a demographically targeted domain name look like?

* WacoOilChange.com
* OilChangeInWaco.com
* BloomingtonDentist.com
* DentistInBloomington.com

So few people take the time to actually use this tactic that there is an enormous amount of traffic to be had by implementing this now. In addition to this, be sure to place the targeted keyword in your title, h1 and other heading tags. Once you have a domain selected, the next step is to submit this new business website and business name to the search engines. Got to the local business listings section of the major search engines and drop it in. Then go to the maps section provided by the search engines and enter the business and domain in there as well. Within a week you should see excellent results. Also, remember to link the site to other sites you have promoting the company.

How to get clients

Local small businesses increase their business by networking. That is to say they meet and greet a lot. Most likely, if you’re a young web geek, you do not belong to the many well established business networks in your town or neighborhood. In order to get on the radar, join the local business group but before going make sure you execute a successful campaign for one local business. You’ll then have proof of your SEO/internet mojo.

When it comes to web marketing, small business people know very little if anything at all. They are controlling and crabby at times and don’t like spending money. That’s only fair since they’ve taken the risk to start a business. This is why it is so important to already have at least one client whom you’ve helped in their market. Trust is the main factor. Making money comes second to trust.

You will fail. Failure = More money

Failing is the most important lesson you can learn. It breeds humility, causes you to recognize that you don’t know everything and will help you grow. So go ahead and try everything, you will fail and it will help you make more money. The more you fail, the more you learn and the more you will learn to avoid. So fail fast and often. The internet is great for failure since it allows you to do it so quickly and learn what to avoid!

Choosing a Domain Name to Remember – Why No One

Choosing a Domain Name to Remember – Why No One Visits Your Website

You’ve chosen a great domain name for your new website or blog, and you sit and wait for the hordes of visitors to gobble up your content. You wait, and wait, but the flood is only a trickle. What could possibly be wrong? You picked a great domain name, and provided compelling articles or so you thought. here we’ll show you some common mistakes webmasters make when starting up a new site.

They heard it through the grapevine

Or did they? One of the first mistakes made is with the actual site name itself. I call this the “passing the phone call test”:

If you can say your website name over the phone to a friend, and they can enter it without being told how to spell it, then you’ve got a winner.

A shorter name is good, but a memorable name is even better. Word of mouth viral marketing is a quick and effective way to get noticed. If the.com Is too long or too hard to remember, you’ve lost that crucial advantage from the very start. If I hear it, I should know how to spell it. So take some time and think of a really easy to remember moniker for your blog.

Your clothes match, so should your site

You wouldn’t go out with clothing that did not match right? Well neither should you send your website out into the world wide web without making sure that the site name matches the content inside. For instance if you’re selling widgets, you’d want to make sure to have widgets in the site title. Many times I see webmasters that make this simple mistake, this can make it harder for the search engines to find your blog, thus costing you much needed traffic.

If you’re unable to purchase widgets.com you can try a variation of the name such as greatwidgets.com, or bluewidgets.com, or widgetreviews.com see the pattern here? By including your keywords in the title, it can increase the chances of getting to the first pages on the search engines, and increasing your visibility.

Tags r us

Another tip to help propel yourself to the top of the search rankings is: don’t neglect your meta tags. Right-click on your website and select “view source” there, at the top you will see a section for “meta name keywords, description, title” etc. make sure these are filled in and optimized to match what you’re promoting on your main page. Smart webmasters know this, and take great advantage of this hidden text to surpass competing sites and leave them in the dust. Don’t get left behind, be sure and use this handy tool.

A little bit of this, but not too much of that

Have you ever been to those sites where it looks likes the Vegas Strip? With tons of blinking, animated ads, and silly cursor trails, or even falling snow? Avoid these like the plague. Not only are they annoying, but they can lead to a slow-loading page which may turn off anyone at the start and cause them to bounce right off of your website.

Benefits of Keyword Rich Domains

Choosing a keyword rich domain name for your business’s website is one of the most important aspects involved in creating a site that is search engine friendly and that will make it easy for Google users to find you. Of course there are many different elements involved in successful search engine optimization (SEO), and they must all work together well to give you the best results, but having a good, keyword-rich domain will definitely give you a good head start. With that in mind, pick keywords that will be popular and relevant amongst your business’s target niche.

Many Sites Don’t Allow You to Choose Anchor Text

Anchor text is one of the most crucial aspects of SEO. However, many website hosting services don’t give you the option of setting your own anchor text. Having your targeted keywords already present in your domain name can help you sidestep this issue, as keyword-rich domains make it easier to generate anchor text links without having to ask for them.

Keyword-Rich Domains are Great for Geo Targeting

If you’re going after your local market, you’ll want to have your domain name reflect this fact. Having a geographical identifier in your domain name will make it easier for local users to find you on Google and other major search engines. An example of a domain with Geo targeting would be chicago.domain-name.com. Having a keyword rich domain means you can insert as many modifiers as are useful and relevant to your website. Of course, it’s never good to go overboard, but if you have a domain name containing keywords that reflect the interests of your target market (e.g. location modifier that appeals to the local target audience), you’re more likely to generate good traffic.

Credibility Increases Click-Through Rates

Having a keyword-rich domain is not only beneficial in terms of conventional SEO, but it can also simply add credibility to your business’s online image. This is especially good when it comes to things like banner ads and pay per click ads. If people see an ad with a domain name that seems unique and contains relevant terms, they will assign more credibility to it and are thus much more likely to actually click on the link. It’s good to remember that the click-to URL is one of the main three components of most PPC ads.
