Why You Need a Central Domain Name

You want a domain name you can centralize your business around. This is very important and should not be overlooked. This is not your business name – if you register a business, the formal name of the business can be something else.

You could also think of it as a stand-in name and website. Mine is power-trust. I’m not using “power” in its domineering sense but more linked to the “power” gained through trust and honesty. If you go there, there may not be much development at all. I use the name as a reference point for my emails, such as, admin at that central domain, and for support needs. It’s used in my privacy policies and so on.

You can use the website flexibly, changing it as you wish to fit changing circumstances and as your business develops. So, you could leave it almost empty, put a few ads on or develop it as a central point referring to your products and services.

However, its main purpose is a marker for your developing business and a name which people will recognise as representing your business, the more you use it. You could have sub-folders with your main services in them, such as main tools or resources.

Without a central site, with a clearly identifiable domain name, your business may have no clear focus, even though you may brand it in other ways.

Where do you get domains?

There are register sites where you can choose and register a domain. Many domain names are already taken, so you may have to be creative in getting yours. Usually, they’re about $9 a year.

Why the Right Domain Name is the Backbone of Your

Why the Right Domain Name is the Backbone of Your Business!

It also follows that having the right address for your website or domain name also matters a lot in terms of being recognized and seen online. When you have the right domain name for your business, you attract more attention, you increase the name recall of your business, and people know exactly where to find you online because they remember your domain name.

So how do you find the right domain name for your business? You might first want to try out finding a domain name that matches the name of your business. It may not be an exact match, especially if your business name is one that is being used widely or is used by a company in another market abroad. However, you must try to keep the spelling and positioning of the words used in your company name as close as possible to the domain name you choose.

The best domain name for a business though is to use your city name and then your keywords. For example if you were a dentist in Miami the ideal domain name would be MiamiDentist.com. The generic version is always the best because it sets you up as the authority in your business niche and it can be sold to anyone who takes over your business.

On that note, you should also make sure that your domain name is easy to spell out in such a way that when people type your domain name as they hear it or type it out from memory, your website will come out. If you have a complicated sounding business name or if your domain name is difficult to spell, more often that not, you visitors and potential customers will be directed to the wrong site or will receive a message on their browser that the website they are trying to connect to does not exist.

In either situation, you have the risk of losing your customers. Most people will not bother to do any more research or type the domain name in Google to find out if they have spelled the domain name correctly. Sometimes, you only have one chance to get your potential customers where you want them. So make sure your domain name has great recall, is easy to spell and short enough for anyone (young or old) to remember.

If you are just starting out or if your company or brand name is not yet a household name, you will want to incorporate a keyword that represents your product or service into your domain name. This will help you when people are make queries or type out the keyword in a search engine query box. The search engine will present a list of search results corresponding to the keyword that was entered. And chances are, if your domain name incorporates that said keyword, your website will be ranked high among the list of search engine results.

Also, make sure that your domain name is catchy. This will make people curious with as to what your website has to offer, and will entice them to check it out. This means more visitors on your website, and more customers for your business.

Having said all that, the time to register that domain name as your own is now. Do not put off the act of actually having that domain name registered, once you have picked out and determined what the right domain name is for your business. With the way things are nowadays, your domain name may be claimed by another person who is setting up a website which may or may not be similar to what you are putting up.

For example when I looked up the domain “MiamiInternetMarketing.com” the domain Miami Internet Marketing was already taken. Someone had already registered the domain so I had to contact them and start negotiating the sale of the domain name. After going back and forth I finally got the domain name but of course had to pay a premium for it.

What is a Yahoo Domain Name?

What are domain names for? If you are starting a website, you need to have a web address, also known as your domain or your URL.

There are a wide variety of companies out there with a wide range of prices which sell domain names. Technically you are not buying the name, but a temporary license to use the URL online for a certain period or time (often 1 year at a time). With an annual domain registration, you can assign this address to your site.

You may even purchase multiple domain names and do what’s called a “redirect.” Using this technique, you can have visitors arrive at the same site regardless of which of your addresses they type into their internet browser.

The company that provides registration of domain names is called a “domain registrar.” The very most basic package includes a panel that you can log into and control what happens with your address. This includes essential tools like redirects and so on.

What happens is that your website host has a literal address that your files are stored at on their server, and your domain names are sent to that (usually complex looking) address. This gives an easy to remember way for your site visitors to get to your site without having to see “the man behind the curtain” so to speak.

It doesn’t seem fair that, if you come up with a unique website address, that you should have to pay someone to use it. Does it? True. It really doesn’t seem fair! However, there is a benefit to the fact that people are required to pay for domain names’ registration. This system prevents random people from using up every URL and then wasting these addresses on useless content (or worse, not using them at all).

Tips For Finding the Right Domain Name

When building a website or a blog, having the right domain name will can really make a big difference in how successful your site is. A domain name generally will not make or break a website, but a good one can give you an extra boost. For example, I have built a few websites overtime that had great domain names, and as a result earned good revenue despite promoting it very little.

Find A Keyword Phrase

Google and other search engines do place emphasis on the domain name. If your domain name includes a keyword phrase, Google will rank your site higher for that phrase naturally because of it.

For example, I did a site with this keyword phrase in the domain: indoorcyclingbike.com. While I have promoted it more in the last few months, this site was ranked on page one of Google almost from the very beginning. I only submitted one article for marketing purposes, and because this phrase gets a really good amount of searches each month, I will naturally get traffic from this keyword each month from the search engines.

The phrase ‘indoor cycling bike’ gets approximately 33,000 searches per month from Google alone. Now this number is not exact in terms of the real searches, but the idea is that there are a lot of searches for it which means that I am getting a nice piece of that pie by being on the first page.

Product or Service Phrase

Rarely will you ever find a great keyword phrase available as a domain name, and I feel I lucked out on this one. What’s also great about this phrase is that it’s an actual product. So when someone searches for “indoor cycling bike” in the search engines and see my site with the domain indoorcyclingbike.com, they are more likely to go to that site since it is completely relevant to what they are searching for.

When you find a great domain name, chances are it won’t have to be promoted as much over time. This is at least the experience I have had, as the best domains I have gotten have required very little promotion on my part in order to reach page one.

This won’t always be the case, but having a great domain name is much better than not having one and will increase your chances of getting a higher volume of traffic and ultimately making money.

Now you understand the value of a domain, but what criteria should you have for selecting one?

Good Domain Names Can Increase Traffic and Sales

When it comes to registering domain names and setting up a website, there are some important factors to consider before you do anything. There’s no question that the name that you choose will be vital to the traffic to your site. It may be one of the biggest tasks to complete in order to have a successful and popular business on the internet because it will be the first visual picture that potential customers retain in their minds. Brainstorming and thorough planning will go a long way in this process and should not be rushed.

First of all, you should know what the domain name is and how it works. It is the address that customers will type into the address bar to find your website and products. There are several reasons that your business will need a good name for this. A sort of credibility comes with having a URL that is specific to your product or services instead of using some random URL. Consumers tend to trust and respect a specific website name.

Before you start thinking of the domain name for your site, you should find a catchy name for your website. The name should be user-friendly and easy to remember, in order to attract the best traffic to the website. You will want your customers to be able to arrive to your site easily and without much effort. Most consumers will type an internet address into their browser in hopes of finding the product for which they are searching, so it is a good practice to include your product name into both the website and the name of your domain. It is not usually a good idea to use your own name as the domain name because it creates confusion and can be easily overlooked when searching for specific products. While John Doe dot com is not a good name for a domain, John’s Pet Supply dot com would work fine because it would be easier for the customer to remember. Another reason that the name of the owner would be an ineffective purchase is that there are less options for expansion and could hinder the growth in the future of the domain.

Brand names and specific product names for domain names would accurately direct the customer to your website more consistently. As long as the name is relevant to the website, it can be profitable. For example, if you are running a business website that sells pet products that you have named ‘discount pet products’, it wouldn’t make a lot of sense to register the domain name ‘catanddogfood’. The bottom line is getting your clients to the site and by registering a name that correlates with the product it will allow you to do so.

Once you have chosen the name of your website and have come up with the right domain names, you need to also make sure that the website is ready for visitors. You should be confident in the content of the site to attract and keep the attention of the potential customer. You can choose the best website and domain in the world, but if the content is not attractive then you may not be able to capitalize on the brand or product that you sell. Having an effective name for your domain is a sure fire way to profit on the internet, so make sure that your content is profitable, as well.

As someone who has been a web writer for years, Andy West knows all about the importance of choosing the right domain names.

Domain Names and Web Design

There are many people willing to create a website for you, but not all people will do, though you are willing to pay them money. Then there is a way to create your own web site by yourself. If so, you may work through the night. In fact, there are many technologies and software for your use.

However, before you create a website, you have to give it a name. Many people find that they will face the so-called “analysis paralysis” problem. They tried to think and want to land on a resounding domain name for their own sites. But when they go to register this domain name, they will be disappointed to find that: The domain name has been registered.

So how to choose your domain name then?

Consider the following points:

1 What is your main business?
2 who are your customers?
3 What is your characteristics selling point? In other words, what do you have which others do not have to attract your customers?
4 What is your name? The last point seems a bit weird.

After considering the first three points, you should come up with a list of alternative names. Log on domain name registration agency to see which of several names fit for you. Domain name price will not fluctuate too much. But on this point, it is worthwhile you to think about.

It is justified that. Com domain name extension prices are in the higher price range. Because when people know the full name of your domain, they will often give priority to enter. Com domain name extension, and. Com domain name extension sounds more professional. Some domain name extensions are cheap, low cost. However, before the purchase of these domain extensions, you should think of whether your clients can easily remember the domain name extension. Almost all of the domain name registration service providers will provide you with a free secondary domain name or E-mail address. If you find the company which cannot provide you with these basic additional services, then you can say to him: Thank you. I do not need your services. Then you find those companies able to provide these free services.

There is a domain name which you should register it out, that is “your name.com”. Why is that? Because you promote out yourself as a domain name trademark of market, you not only let people know who you are, what you are doing, but also let them know you are very strict in the business, and proud of it. Just think, will you place your name in a worthless thing? Of course you will not. So when one considers that your name appears on the domain, they will think: “Oh! Dennis name is written on the above. It appears this thing / service is quality assured!” As long as this thing is high quality, then your name also means high-quality.

What you should gain from your hosting provider?

One thing you must know that when your website come forth problems whom you can contact with. Therefore, the best choice is for that you can contact the web hosting provider all the night and day. Do not be the provider whom has not any message three days after you reflect a problem to them. If you want to know whether the operating conditions of your buying virtual host system are good, the best way is to ask your customers. When you have time, you can go to the forum to raise a number of related issues, or search for some articles to read.

Create your site.

As I said earlier, many people will create a website for you. So, what you have to do is to provide the details parts and some assumption for them. Let them do the technical work. Professional website design will cost you about a few hundred US dollars or ranging from a few thousand dollars.

If you control a little computer knowledge, you can happily according to your need to design your own websites. If you think that you could not do, then my first suggestion is that you should go looking for some help, support or guidance. If you are new to web design, then a lot of things in web design make you feel extremely distressed. Forum is a good way to seek help. Of course, you can also find other suitable places to ask for helpful.

When you want to create a website, you need these elements:

Domain Name – clear, concise, easy to remember the name. Do not select the domain names that people easily misspelled.

Web Hosting – providing good customer support is very necessary. You have to check the operational status of the virtual hosts and bandwidth.

HTML editor software – Html is a very complicated language. If you do not understand it or not studied it at all, then you need an Html editor. There are many free versions online.

Ftp software – you can upload the website from the local desktop to the server through the software. All FTP software features are similar. But if you are first-time, then you can choose a more software-based Ftp to find the part you need.

Headers, footers, graphics – all of the sites require some kind of graphics. You can buy online library package and according to your own favorite edit it, or you can spend 60-80 dollars to buy some basic graphics services.

The above principle is the basic principles. At the same time, you also need to consider issues of electronic commerce, download protection, and other elements associated with the functions of your site.

Domain Name Best Practices

Domain names have been around for quite a long time and with the low cost in registering domain names, their usage has exploded over the years. Purchasing a domain name is a simple process and delivers improved exposure to your website, but here are some best practices to consider when registering a domain name:

Keep the domain name simple: The domain name doesn’t have to contain every single word of the company or service. This also applies to directory names. I’ve encountered organizations that had every word of a service area in the directory name. For example, the service area name was Building Strong Communities and the directory name was building-strong-communities. Add that on to the main domain name, and you have an long URL.

Purchase other TLD’s: If you want to purchase yourcompany.com, it is advisable to also purchase yourcompany.net, yourcompany.org, etc. (where possible). This will help protect your organization’s online identity. I remember years ago when I was in college, one of the instructors mentioned to us how whitehouse.gov was the official White House website, while whitehouse.com was an adult website. Fortunately, whitehouse.com has since be changed into a political-centered website. Imagine if someone went to yourcompany.net and it was a website that had material that could tarnish your organization’s image.

Maintain domain names for two years after they are needed: If you purchase a domain name for an event or the need for the domain name is non-existent, it is advisable to continue ownership of the domain name for two years past the need. Keep a static page at the domain name advising visitor’s that this domain name is no longer in use and will be retired in two years. The reasoning is similar to point 2. If you let your domain expire right after you no longer need it, it may be purchased by a company hoping to capitalize on your organization’s reputation. If inappropriate material is posted on the new website, it may reflect badly on your organization, being that it was so recently owned and used by your organization.

Purchase Misspelled Variations: If your domain name is a commonly misspelled word, purchased those misspelled variations. This could increase the direct traffic to your website.

Have a single department manage the domain names: This isn’t as important in smaller organizations, but in larger organizations like universities and colleges, this is critical. When various areas are purchasing domain names when they deem it necessary, there is no one body to accept accountability and to ensure these (or similar) best practices are followed.

Use the same domain name registrar: When possible, use the same domain name registrar. This makes managing the multiple domain names easier. There are some cases where this wouldn’t work out. For example you want to register the.info TLD but your registrar doesn’t handle those, then in that case you would need to find a registrar that did. Maybe consider switching to a registrar that supports a variety of TLDs.

Use a domain name policy: If you are in a large organization, consider drafting a policy that outlined the best practices that you would like to follow and ensure that it is publicized. There is not point in coming up with best practices and then sitting on them. Many large organizations already have some domain name policy in place. See if you can find a public version of a policy from another organization and using it as a springboard to start your own.

These are just a few of the observations that I’ve made over the years. Try Googling for ‘domain name best practices’ to see what others may say.

Cheap Domain Name – Domain Names For $1.99 – What’s

Cheap Domain Name – Domain Names For $1.99 – What’s the Fine Print?

The most expensive domain registrars charge $35 for a.com domain name. So when you find a.com domain name for $1.99, what’s the catch? Some registrars out there offer special rates of $1.99 for any domain (.com,.us,.mobi,.biz,.net, or.me) but is it worth it? Make sure you read the fine print carefully:

1. How long does the special rate of $1.99 per domain name per year lasts for? The first year? Every year? Does it return to a regular price in the second year, or does it slowly build up every year?
2. Next, how many domain names can you get at that special rate? As many as you want? Is it limited to only one?
3. Finally, some special rates require you to sign up for a different product as well. Do you need to sign up for a web hosting plan? Are there any limitations on which products you need to sign up for?

There can be some great specials out there, but we always get nervous because you have to read the fine print really closely. We’re a big fan of domain name privacy registration. Basically, when you register a domain name, your contact information (address, telephone number, email) gets posted in a publicly listed WHOIS database. Many registrars offer privacy by masking the information that gets published in the WHOIS database. (You still retain ownership of the domain.)

Some registrars charge up to $8.99 per domain name per year for this privacy service, but, only special promotions where if you buy 5 or more domains (at the same time), you can get free privacy registration for the domain names. Sounds great, but make sure you read the fine print.

We found a domain registrar that offered free privacy registration, but we get lost in the checkout process and don’t check the private registration box for all of our domains. We didn’t realize our mistake until after we completed the transaction when it was too late. You can’t always apply the domain name privacy registration afterwards. It doesn’t matter anyways, because when the free private registration special on the domain names expire, you’ll have to pay the regular rate of $8.99 per domain name per year to maintain your privacy. There are lots of great domain registrars out there that catch our attention with their great deals, but we find having to read through all of the fine print annoying. It’s like you always have to keep your guard up.

We like it simple. We’d rather find a domain registrar that offers great prices with free domain name privacy registration. And yes, there are lots of domain name registrars out there that offer .com domain names for under $10 per year – and that’s the regular renewal rate, and not just a sale price for the first year to lure you in.

Lots of domain registrars compare their prices against one or two of the most expensive domain companies out there charging $35 for a.com domain name.

We have a domain name comparison chart listing the sale prices and regular prices for domain names from over 20 of the top selling registrars in a sortable table. If you’re ready to find cheap domain names, we’re here to help at http://www.domain-hosting-comparison.com/
