How to Make Your Domain Name SEO Friendly

SEO or search engine optimizations are website elements and activities to emphasize some content of the site. This important content are keywords that you are trying to rank for. The first step of SEO is selecting keywords or search phrases that have low competition and high search volume. The next step is modifying web pages to contain relevant keywords in elements like page title, meta description, url, header tags and other important places. The final SEO action is promotion of the website. This is done mainly through various link building strategies. Every backlink to your website contributes to its popularity and authority. But the most important on-page SEO element is the domain.

Domain is the name of the website as it is seen on the internet. Therefore, it should be either short easy to remember word or keyword related to the content of the web pages. If your website is build around one keyword or search phrase, the best approach is to use this keyword also for the domain. This means trying to register MyKeyword.com on the first place and if this name is already registered to try alternative names. Having the main keyword in the domain name has two benefits. Such domains clearly describe your website without visiting it and consequently the domain is SEO friendly meaning that it explains the content of the site also to search engines.

If the target keyword is not available for the com top level domain you can try with org, net or info domains. There is no significant difference among them–they are all general purpose domains with no specific geographic target area. If you can still not find a free name you need to slightly modify your keyword by adding a word that makes sense in the context of the site. For example MyKeywordReviews.com, MyKeywordInfo.com or MyKeywordShop.com are typical solutions where the main word is already registered. Such variations have still your main keyword in the domain and are still considered SEO friendly.

With proper additional word it is almost always possible to find a free domain name. But in some cases it is also possible to use only the keyword as domain name and selecting one of the country top level domains. If you are targeting only one country or only one geographic area then this approach is equally effective as using general top level domains.

In every case you should choose domain that is somehow related to the website. If it contains the main keyword it will be easily remembered and SEO friendly.

One example of SEO friendly domain name is the http://restaurantpizzaovens.org/ website. It contains the main keyword restaurant pizza ovens which clearly describes what the page is about. Since the com domain was already taken the next alternative with org was used.

Remember, domain name is very important part of internet marketing. Domain registration is the next step after deciding the name and purpose of the website.

Dot Tel Domains – Why Do We Need Them?

Our heads spin. Round and round like those wind-up toys. There is so much information, so much data coming at us day in and day out. And many of us have to provide multiple pieces of our contact information to different people every day.

We have Facebook IDs, Twitter IDs, mobile phone numbers, land line numbers, and personal and business website addresses.

We have physical addresses, multiple email addresses, and business addresses (physical and mailing). We have Skype or Google Talk, MSN, usernames for gaming, and for forums, and blogs. It is endless!

And it is driving people crazy. How can we keep track of all this and not have to give the same pieces of information to different people? At the same time we want to protect some kinds of information.

A way was needed on the internet to unify all these different contact types and bring communications back to a single contact point or hub.

It now exists and it is called the Dot Tel Domain. It is the new top level domain extension which you see as ‘.tel’. A top level domain extension is just that bit at the end of a website address including the period.

Let’s say your name is John Smith. You decide to get a Dot Tel with this name. All your contact information is on this single domain name on the internet.

You have a business or personal card with just that name on it. That is all you need to give to anyone who has an internet enabled device such as a PC or a mobile phone. They access this information through any web browser. When you change personal or business details everyone with your Dot Tel name is automatically updated almost instantaneously. Everyone!

And you can protect any contact information you choose to through a process called ‘friending’. This is outside the scope of this article, but you don’t need to worry about the wrong people getting your contact information. Telnic, the promoter of Dot Tel, launched the domain publicly less than a year ago and now there are around 275,000 registrations worldwide.

And remember, you never need to give anyone you know or meet more than just your Dot Tel address. They will always be able to find you.

Dot Tel Domains – New Display Features

The new Dot Tel Domain display is a significant change for this top level extension. The new display will be released in March, 2010. I am somewhat positive about the new display design. However, it seems to have drawn its inspiration from Tax Department forms; especially those of New Zealand, a country South-East of Australia.

Telnic is the promoter of Dot Tel. Their timing with the new design is excellent. It was no doubt planned for the month before the domain’s first year renewals which are due on 24th March, 2010. The display changes are dramatic, and welcomed. They are the shot in the arm that this internet top level domain extension needed. I mean, who got any pleasure out of showing anyone their Dot Tel with the current display?

Colour customisation will be offered through a series of templates. I do not know the details yet of those templates. The components of the design appear to be square, whereas the old design was curved. I liked the shape of the previous design. It was the drab colour scheme that was the problem. I am ambivalent on colour customisation because I do not know if it will detract from the Dot Tel brand. I favour just one template with a fantastic design to keep the brand strong and recognisable.

Strong and colourful borders are better. Although colours increase the data amount per page, data costs are falling. Perhaps in time, as data costs drop the display will evolve into something that people really love to see.

The Tel logo will be moved to the bottom of the page. This is a shame because it completed the text header for the current web site page. The current design also put the logo right in the user’s face when they pulled up the page. It now has a semi-tube or lens-like design. I preferred the previous Tel logo for its simplicity and I think that the change was not required. It will also affect brand recognition as it will sit below the fold of the page on many computers and mobile phones. Perhaps, the logo position will be adjustable.

The VCard is now at the top right of the page. This an improvement because it makes this important feature more accessible, or noticeable than when it was at the bottom right of the page.

Custom icons have been allowed for popular web sites such as LinkedIn, and Facebook. This is an improvement because well known and colourful symbols can now be placed on a Dot Tel page making the page more exciting. The previous display lacked this excitement factor.

The placing of well-known icons on the page improves the perceived quality of that page because they are some of the best known symbols in the world. They give a web page status whether that status is deserved or not. This is a major improvement which adds value to all Dot Tel Domains. There are also new contact type icons.

One thing missing from the new display is the breadcrumb trail that is on the current display. Studies of usability indicate that the breadcrumb is an indispensable part of a web page. I hope this is an error because it is a significant mistake to remove it. It could be at the very top left of the page on the same line as the new management tools. I hope they do not leave it out!

There are two new features which are critical. One is absolutely necessary and that is a way to search the current Dot Tel or all Dot Tels. Top marks here! The other addition is the top-of-the-page management and login functions. If I am not mistaken, this means that the previously roundabout route to managing a domain is gone. Excellent stuff and in the correct position, as is the search box.

Telnic are also introducing Google AdSense on Dot Tels which will be greatly appreciated by owners. It will provide another income stream for Dot Tel owners, and add credibility to the domain extension. Hopefully, it will not involve any third party applications. This is another step in the right direction.

Telnic at long last have done some things right. There are still things to improve. After being available to the public for nearly a year, there are at last grounds for cautious optimism about the future of Dot Tel.

Bill Rutherfurd is an early Dot Tel adopter. He likes the fast access to contact data and information especially on mobile phones. It is also a very cheap web presence. Dot Tel Domains – How to Build a Directory

The Dot Tel Domain is a relatively new internet Top Level Domain (TLD) that operates from the internet’s Domain Name System (DNS). These domains have been available to the public for less than a year. Since its inception around 275 thousand domains have been registered by investors, speculators, businesses, and individuals.

A Dot Tel Directory is a web site with contact information and text. A product directory has product listings. It usually has a geographical component because having a product directory for the whole world is unrealistic unless it is a very rare product. For example, with a common product like glass or aluminum, there will usually be a limited geographical area for that directory. It is, however, possible to create very large directories and this is discussed below.

An example of a mixed product and geographical directory could be ‘West Texas Aluminum’. The geographical area is defined as ‘West Texas’ and it could be a directory of aluminum products companies. The advantage of a domain with this name is that it is good for search because the keywords are in the domain name.

Another type of directory is a purely geographical directory. Examples would be towns, cities, provinces, or states. A geographical directory may be targeted to visitors or tourists in that town or city. It might be only for tourist attractions or other visitor activities in the town or city. Using the previous example such a directory could be of a small city in ‘West Texas’.

The last type of directory is the services directory where only certain types of services in a particular geographical area are listed. For example, a directory could be of accountants in a particular city. It is conceivable that a global service directory without a geographical area could be created. But the service activity would have to be very specialised. An example of a hybrid service directory could be a city in ‘West Texas’ Accounting Services.

Dot Tel Directories are theoretically limited in size because each Dot Tel can have only 3,000 contact records. This limitation can be overcome, however, because Dot Tels can be added together to form a big domain. For example, in a directory created for a city’s landlines of 30,000 numbers, 11 directories could be used. The master directory’s home page would just be ten links to the other Dot Tel directories. The ten subsidiary directories could then be structured by area, alphabetical surname, or a combination of the two together.

Dot Tel Domain directories can also be broad and/or deep. This means that the folder structure (the sub-domain structure) can be wide with a lot of entries on a single page. Or it can be deep which means the sub-domains have many levels. The directory owner must decide on a balance between the breadth and the depth to give the user the best experience possible.

The user must be kept foremost in the mind of the Dot Tel Directory developer. The developer needs to know how far users are willing to scroll down in order to find information and how many sub-domains levels they will click on before they become frustrated. Ideally, the developer should talk to many potential users to get their opinions about these issues before building their directory.

Dot Tel Domains – A Green Technology

What is a Green Technology? It is technology that minimizes the impact of humans on the environment.

Traditional directories such as the White Pages and the Yellow Pages, although they have a web presence now, produce contact directories that use up enormous numbers of trees. These trees, of course, are used to make paper for phone books.

These books are usually thrown away after just one year and the whole tree cutting process starts again.

A Dot Org website called ‘Ban the Phone Book’ estimates that 5 million trees are cut down every year to make them. This is a stunning number of trees. This website has been covered in major US Newspapers such as the NY Times.

Although tree felling provides jobs it severely damages the environment even if the forests are so-called renewable. Waterways, wildlife, and ecosystems are affected badly.

This problem with paper directories is solved by the Dot Tel Domain. There is no paper in a Dot Tel Domain. There are no phone books. If you want to look up something you open your web browser, and enter the directory’s address, and you are there.

Any device with an internet connection can find a Dot Tel Domain. This includes web enabled mobile phones, and PCs.

Dot Tel Directories can be for products, people, businesses, or anything else that has contact information. Another major issue is that anything that updating a Dot Tel is nearly instantaneous.

With a phone book you don’t get updated until the following year when the new one comes out, although the companies now have website presences as well.

There are technical reasons why the traditional phone directory companies operating on Dot Coms or top level domain country extensions can not compete with a Dot Tel. These are to do with the location of the data. A full explanation is beyond the scope of this article.

With the internet continuing to grow in use we can hope that this Green Technology grows with it, and that eventually no trees are cut down to make phone books.

Dot Tel Domains – 3 Ways to Make Money With

Dot Tel Domains – 3 Ways to Make Money With Them

This article is on the new top level domain extension, Dot Tel. This technology is different from all other website technologies because it is hosted in the internet’s Domain Name System. This is where Internet Protocol (IP) addresses for all computers connected to the internet are stored.

Despite their differences to other top level domain extensions, they offer 3 ways to make money which are also used by the more traditional domains; Dot Coms, Dot Nets, and Dot Orgs. These options are discussed are outlined in this article.

There are 3 main ways to make money with these domains:

1. AdSense

Google AdSense Pay Per Click was just added to Dot Tel Domains on 31st March 2010. Also, there are now tools available to help an owner add AdSense to their domains provided by applications’ developers. This is an important new development in money making on these domains. AdSense works by looking at the content on a page, finding the keywords, and then installing advertisements on each page.

2. Custom Advertising

Dot Tel Domains come with the ability to put custom advertisements on each pages. These are different from AdSense Advertisements. The owner can position these in the top, right hand side, and bottom positions of any page. Up to 12 ads per page are allowed. This gives owners of directories, for example, the ability to negotiate individual advertising packages for customers in the different directory categories and pages.

3. Enhanced Listings

There are many optional extras that can be added to a basic contact entry or listing in a Dot Tel Directory. A basic listing normally consists of just a phone number and possibly a location record. Some examples of an enhanced listing include custom logos, extra text, external links, extra contact types, and better search engine optimization on pages for clients. Many of these extras can be charged to the customer.

With these 3 options – AdSense, Custom Advertising, and Enhanced Listings – the owner or promoter of a Dot Tel Domain can make money from them.
